Temporary Staff Accountant (Contract) - Hamden, CT (Hybrid)

Summary:

Our client is seeking a Temporary Staff Accountant to support their Controller's Office during a leave coverage. This is a hands-on role focused on reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Ideal for candidates who can contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Perform general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end close
  • Reconcile cash, deposits, and assigned accounts
  • Assist with payments, ACH transactions, and related entries
  • Maintain schedules and audit-ready workpapers
  • Support audit requests and financial reporting needs
  • Review transactions for accuracy and policy compliance
  • Assist with restricted funds/gift reconciliations
  • Provide ad hoc accounting support as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • 2+ years of hands-on GL, reconciliations, and journal entry experience
  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles (no basic training provided)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • High attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Nonprofit or higher education experience (preferred)
  • Experience with ERP systems a plus (Ellucian, Unimarket, Emburse)
  • Strong Excel/Microsoft Office skills

Pay:

  • $31-$35 Hourly

Schedule:

  • Contract: ~June - October (approx. 3 months)
  • 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Hybrid: 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
  • Wednesday required onsite
  • Location: Hamden, CT
